Recente levering: storage park met de mooiste entree<\/h1>\n

Ik denk dat we, al onze prachtige projecten ten spijt, kunnen stellen dat we de mooiste entree van een storage park die wij ooit hebben gezien gevonden hebben. In de week van 17 januari hebben we een levering begeleid in het prachtige Ierland. De locatie was bij Clare Storage<\/span><\/a>, Clarecastle, in het westen van het land.

Een bijzondere plek, vol met moderne en vroege historie. Dit gebied van Ierland behoort tot het meest westelijke deel van continentaal Europa. Nog een paar kilometer naar het westen en er rest niets anders dan oceaan, tot aan de kust van Canada toe. Om die reden ligt Shannon Airport ook op deze plek. Voor een periode van 25 jaar (jaren \u201840 tot eind jaren \u201860) was dit het vliegveld dat door \u00e1lle vliegtuigen die vlogen tussen Europa en Amerika werd aangedaan. Na hier te hebben bijgetankt en overnacht, waagde men de vliegreis overzee.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In goed gezelschap<\/b><\/p>\n

De zeer lange landingsbaan van Shannon behoorde tot de langste ter wereld en was zelfs een offici\u00eble uitwijkhaven voor de Space Shuttle, als de weersomstandigheden het niet zouden toelaten om in de VS te landen. In het hotel waar ik sliep, hing de muur in de lobby vol met foto\u2019s van tientallen beroemdheden en politici als Castro, Marilyn Monroe en Charly Chaplin, die hier allen tijdens de tanksessie de nacht hebben doorgebracht. Ik heb voor de zekerheid mijn foto en een spijker achtergelaten.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Hongersnood<\/b><\/p>\n

Deze plek was in de 19e eeuw helaas ook het decor van \u00e9\u00e9n van de grootste hongersnoden die Europa heeft gekend. Door een aantal mislukte aardappeloogsten en slecht management vanuit Engeland, stierven miljoenen Ieren een hongerdood. Ook kwam er een grote emigratiegolf op gang naar o.a. de V.S. via de zogenoemde coffin-ships, de \u2018doodskist-schepen\u2019, waar soms wel 30% van de mensen aan boord de reis niet overleefden. In Dublin is een replica van zo\u2019n schip, tezamen met een zeer indrukwekkend monument voor de slachtoffers te vinden.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Levering\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Genoeg geschiedenis. Ons project begon met een kennismaking tijdens de <\/span>Fedessa Show<\/span><\/i> in Birmingham, afgelopen oktober. Toen is de wens uitgesproken om samen zaken te doen. De levering zou voor de Kerst plaatsvinden, maar het slechte weer verstoorde het vaarschema van rederij DFDS. Omwille van de Brexitperikelen hebben we gekozen voor een overtocht vanuit Cherbourg, Frankrijk naar Dublin. Vanaf daar ging de vrachtwagen naar het westen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Opbouw<\/b><\/p>\n

De huidige eigenaar, Pat Quinn, is al weer de vijfde generatie op deze prachtige plek. De familie woont zelf ook op het perceel. In de afgelopen twintig jaar zijn de voormalige koeienstallen omgebouwd tot professionele hallen vol storage units. Dit wordt nu aangevuld met een storage park. Met een grote verreiker werd de vrachtwagen gelost, waarna het Ierse lokale bouwteam de eerste container neerzette. Ik was erbij om dit proces te begeleiden. Na het uitwisselen van enige tips & tricks was de volgende container natuurlijk geen probleem.\u00a0<\/span>
