Dat deden ze om daar stokvis in te slaan, een gedroogde kabeljauw. De IJssel was toen nog bevaarbaar voor zeeschepen. Daarnaast bood de open Zuiderzee vrije doorgang naar het noorden.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tijdens de barre reizen werd de bemanning gevoed door een houdbare en voedzame receptuur. Gewoon brood bleef aan boord namelijk niet lang goed. Het Deventer bakkersgilde kwam met een oplossing. Die was gevonden door gebruik te maken van een koekachtige samenstelling. Deze bleef veel langer houdbaar. Gedurende de hele reis kon hiervan veilig worden gegeten. De aanwezigheid van veilig te consumeren voedsel zorgde voor een wezenlijk concurrentievoordeel ten opzichte van andere steden. De IJssel begon te verzanden en werd daardoor steeds ondieper. Uiteindelijk konden zeeschepen de stad niet meer bereiken. Hierdoor verloor Deventer haar positie als zeestad. De route naar het noorden verviel toen langzaam. Andere steden aan de kust sprongen in het gat. Zij namen de lucratieve handel over. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De Deventer Koek wordt echter tot op de dag van vandaag op ons industrieterrein geproduceerd. Zelfs de Deventer Soci\u00ebteit der Bergenvaarders bestaat nog steeds. Wij houden graag de Deventer ondernemersgeest levend. Daarom krijgen al onze gasten altijd Deventer Koek mee naar huis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hoe leuk is het dan dat wij als Deventer bedrijf juist in Bergen de traditie van onze voorvaderen voortzetten? Een nieuw containerpark als bekroning op een eeuwenlange relatie.
